This region has long been known as the home to some of the legendary organists in jazz, including names like Jimmy Smith, Trudy Pitts, Shirley Scott and Joey DeFrancesco. Organist and sometimes singer Rich Budesa, a graduate of the Philadelphia School of the Performing Arts and one of the most sought after jazz organists on the scene today, continues that rich and swinging tradition. He has performed and recorded with some of the great musicians of our time including: Grover Washington Jr., Lenny White, George Duke, Junior Cook, Billy Paul and Eric Alexander. The Budesa Brothers organ trio, featuring brother Robert on guitar, were recently featured on National Public Radio’s “American Routes” and “Jazz Night in America.”
Jazz Bridge, an award-winning nonprofit dedicated to assisting Greater Philadelphia Metro area jazz and blues musicians and vocalists in times of crisis, sponsors these neighborhood concerts throughout the region to keep the sound of Philadelphia alive.
